Educational Diagnostician

Educational Diagnosticians identify special needs of children through effective communication, consultation, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.  This can be accomplished through assessment of general achievement in the academic subject areas of reading, written language and math as well as in the areas of oral expression, listening, comprehension, and the individual student's learning styles for instructional planning.  They also design interventions which address areas of academic need.  Consultative services is another significant area through which the educational diagnostician can work with teachers and administrators in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the interventions designed to address a student's school problems to determine their effectiveness for that student's unique needs.  Finally, educational diagnosticians provide information to educators and parents concerning ethical and legal issues of assessment contained in federal and state law.
