Physical and Occupational Therapist in the School

In the school, the physical therapist develops and maintains the physical potential of a child with disabilities for independence and participation in the classroom and other educational activities.  The physical therapist assesses students by performing and interpreting tests and measurements of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, and sensorimotor functions.

In the school, the occupational therapist uses purposeful, goal-directed activities and adaptive techniques and equipment to improve the child’s ability to participate effectively in classroom, self-help, vocational, and playground activities as reflected in specific IEP goals.  The occupational therapist assesses students by performing and interpreting tests and measurements of fine motor, self-care, vocational, perceptual motor, and/or sensory integrative performance.
